THE BEST PLACES TO GO HIKING
IN KOH PHANGAN

Slumber Party Hostels

Welcome to Slumber Party Hostel. We are  proud to offer the best party hostel experience for backpackers across Thailand and Indonesia.

Koh Phangan is not just about big buckets of booze. It’s a beautiful island with a lot of nature trails and hidden beaches to explore. When you have gotten tired of the usual parties on Haad Rin, start exploring more of the island by going through our list of best places to go hiking in Koh Phangan. Perhaps you will find an alternative party route to that of the Haad Rin Pub Crawl or maybe you will find some secret beaches that can be your very own paradise for the day.

BOTTLE BEACH HIKE

The hike to Bottle Beach otherwise known as Haad Kuad is well-marked and easy to follow. The moderately challenging climb, which begins at Haad Khom near Chalokum, will take around 45 to 50 minutes each way. When you reach the top, reward yourself with a fresh coconut and a bit of chill time on the beach. You can always take the boat taxi back. In fact, there are signs on the trail with boat taxi numbers.

KHAO RA

The highest mountain on the island, Khao Ra’s elevation can be a bit of challenge but the view on top will be worth it. At a height of 630 meters, you will have spectacular views of Chaloklum and the east coast. Just don’t look in the direction of the airport and keep your gaze on the mountains. At the entrance, you will be asked to pay 20THB which will include a bottle of water. Try to stay on the well-trodden paths as there are some tricky bits that might get you lost.

NAMTOK PHAENG-DOM SILA NATURE TRAIL

Located in Than Sadet – Koh Phangan National Park, the tree-lined trail is fairly easy to follow. Stop at the Dom Sila Viewpoint which you will find during the first 20 to 30 minutes of your trek from the national park entrance and enjoy the view of Koh Phangan from the top. Then, continue along the trail to get to Phaeng Waterfall. Although not as impressive during the dry season, have a dip in one of the cool pools and it will be worth the walk. You can also continue the 250-meter rocky climb to the top to be like Tarzan looking over a sprawling jungle. And, if you really need the cardio, you can continue your trek to the peak of Khao Ra.

HAAD RIN TO HAAD YUAN HIKING TRAIL

Explore Haad Yuan and take in its alternative beach vibe by taking a long walk through a nature trail from Palita’s Lodge in Haad Rin. Learn the acronym HY for Haad Yuan and VP for a viewpoint. You are on vacation and you do have all day to spare the 5-minute walk to the viewpoint. Then, head the other direction to Haad Yuan, where you might end up staying longer than expected or if you are a super hiker, you can continue your trek to Haad Nam, splashing into a few secret beaches along the way. Just make sure you are prepared for this leg – Bring a first aid kit, lots of water, and a fully charged mobile phone. Maybe even a battery pack.

SAFETY FIRST!

Before heading out, especially on longer treks, make sure that you have downloaded a map that you can use. There are a lot of trekking apps with recorded trails that you can use. Should you veer away from the trail to discover a new one, then finding your way back would not be as tough. And, if you plan on getting lost, make sure you have got enough water, food, and battery charge to get you through your hike.
