Clean Eating: Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Bangkok

Healthy Eats Are Among the Top Tier of Bangkok Restaurants

Travelling through Bangkok as a vegetarian or vegan used to be hard work. Historically, restaurants would laugh you out the door. That’s no longer the case…

Thailand is a country full of amazing food. Undoubtedly that’ll be one of the reasons that you’re excited to travel there. But travel as a vegetarian or vegan and it can become troublesome. In the past, restaurants typically wouldn’t cater for you and some could be downright rude. Thankfully those days are gone. Bangkok, among others, has led the charge of vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants. Vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Bangkok are now among the most highly rated in the city.

Whilst you’ll have to be more careful trying street food (animal-based broth and Nam Pla (fish sauce) is used almost religiously in everything!) there are still hundreds of options. Earlier this month, we went over the healthiest restaurants in Chiang Mai. Today’s list aims to lift the lid on the vegetarian and vegan world of Bangkok. Get out there, get tasting, enjoy yourself!

Healthy dieting is now easy in Bangkok, with so many vegan and vegetarian restaurants to choose from.

Bonita Café and Social Club – Instagram friendly

Gorgeous hand painted plates with pretty food to match. This little café on Bang Rak, Silom prides itself on excellent vegan food. The menu might not be vast but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. Think zucchini pasta, hearty sandwiches and sumptuous salads.

Cost: 150-200 baht per plate.

Location: 100 Soi Pramote, Silom Road, Bang Rak, Silom

Opening Times: Wed – Mon 9:30 – 21:30

Na Aroon – Traditional Stylings

With a philosophy of healthy, tasty, organic and (mainly) vegetarian food what’s not to like? This traditional looking restaurant (part of a boutique hotel) is hidden away at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 1. This place specialises in health food. You won’t find any additives, MSG, colourings or preservatives within any of their dishes. Try the highly rated Tofu Massaman Curry. You won’t be disappointed.

Cost: 150 – 400 baht per plate or 800 baht for a speciality menu.

Location: 65 Sukhumvit Soi 1

Opening Times: Daily 6:30 -22:30

Broccoli Revolution – Quick and Tasty

In a rush? This is the place for you. If you’re after great tasting vegan fast food you’ll be spoilt by Broccoli Revolution. Head for the corner of Sukhumvit Road and Soi 49, easily reached from Thonglor BTS. Take a seat in the industrial hipster setting and you’ll be rubbing shoulders with the trendy mix of local Thai students and expats. Mezze plates here are perfect for sharing, the burgers brilliant for one.

Cost: 100 – 300 baht per plate

Location: 899 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 49

Opening Times: Daily 7:00 -23:00

Ethos – A Retreat from Khao San

Most backpackers will end up experiencing the madness of Khao San Road. When the time comes for a break, this little oasis of calm is only a stone’s throw away. Big comfy cushions, international cuisine and great location. Starting at only 100 baht, you’re presented with a great choice; falafels, curries and the famous giant shakes. If you’re after a pure vegan menu then just ask. Most dishes can be made vegan on request.

Cost: 100 – 250 baht per plate

Location: 85/2 Thanon Tanao

Opening Times: 7:30 – 23:45

Healthy Eaters Rejoice

The city is now open to you. The list of restaurants adding vegan friendly and vegetarian options to their menus is ever growing. Explore, ask around and see what you can find.
