Once you hear of the beautiful island of Lombok, Bali’s quieter sister, you are bound to find ways to get to this island as a means of escaping the touristy atmosphere of Bali. Here are some tips on how to get from Bali
This is possibly the quickest and most convenient way to get to Lombok from Bali. With frequent flights between Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport to Praya’s Lombok International Airport, the travel time will be short and sweet at 25 to 45 minutes.
With ticket prices that range from $25 to $32 with airline providers like Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air and Wings Air, taking the plane is more expensive than taking the ferry with a few downsides. Lombok’s capital city, Mataram, is 37 kilometers away and the popular beach resorts of Senggigi 56 kilometers away.
For the purpose of comfort and convenience, you can try using your hotel’s airport transfer services. If needed, you can also use the DAMRI Bus services for just 25,000IDR to Mataram and 35,000IDR to the Senggigi resort area. There are also fixed-priced airport taxis waiting just outside the airport. Their rates range from 250,000 to 300,000IDR for a ride to Mataram or Senggigi.
Although traveling by air is more than 4 times the price of traveling by water and the trip from the airport can be quite a mission, this is possibly the best option for people traveling with children or travelers who are prone to motion sickness. Just an FYI: The
The cheaper option to traveling to Lombok, the journey by sea begins at Padangbai Harbor which is a 90-minute drive from Seminyak and Kuta. A taxi to this location will probably set you back around 365,000IDR.
You can also book a bus with Perama, the national tour bus company, which will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to Padang Bai. Just make sure that you book your seat a day in advance at their office (located at Dona Restaurant on JL Pelabuhan) or call them at +6236341419 directly.
From Padangbai Harbour, you can take one of the public ferries that depart every hour for just 46,000IDR. Splurge a bit more and you can book the private rooms that they reserve for tourists for just 96,000IDR. Each room comes with 2 or 3 beds, making your time on the boat more comfortable. The trip usually takes 4 to 5 hours, depending on the weather conditions. Also, the ferries that include the transfer of motorbikes from Bali to Lombok for an extra 129,000IDR tend to take longer.
To get to Lombok faster, there are several fast boat services at the harbour that will cut your travel time to 1 to 2 hours. A bit more comfortable than the public ferries, the trip includes snacks, refreshments, and entertainment. Of course, this all comes with an extra premium and the fees are more than double the price of the public ferry. Blue Water Express which goes from Padang Bai to Lombok in an hour will set you back around 690,000IDR once way. Other fast boat providers you can look into are Ekajaya Fastboat, Gili Getaway, Marina Srikandi, Scoot Fast Cruises, Semaya One Cruise, and Wahana Gili Ocean 2.
The ferries will stop at the Lembar Harbor in Lombok, which is an hour from Senggigi and around 30 minutes from Mataram. You can also take a ferry straight to the Gili Islands if you have no plans of staying Lombok, making it a better option than flying to Lombok.
