We love Thailand.
The Land of Smiles has a way of capturing your heart and never letting go. Kind of like an ex you can’t get over, kind of like a craving you can’t get rid of…our love for Thailand is here to stay.
Don’t believe us? Here are eleven reasons why we love Thailand – and why we decided to stay here for good.
1. THAI MARKETS
Walking our Thai markets, especially the popular Chatuchak market in Bangkok and the night markets all over tourist areas in Thailand, can be a colourful tour that gives you a glimpse of Thai crafts, quirky items, and the culture itself.
2. THAI TATTOOS
Once reserved for soldiers and working-class men as a charm that will keep them from harm and bring them good luck, the exotic permanent mark of Thai script in black ink has become quite a trend for tourists. Check out the many ajarn masters in Bangkok – Ajarn Thong being the most popular and expensive among all of them.
These adorable, gentle giants can be the highlight of any Thai visit. Cuddle them, bathe them, and feed them. Just please make sure that you are visiting elephant sanctuaries that truly watch out for these creatures.
4. FULL MOON PARTIES
It is hard to resist the chaos of a good full moon beach party in Koh Phangan. It’s the go-to place for music lovers as the full moon line up has a set for everyone, from reggae rasta people to drum and bass junglists. Add a bit of showmanship in the form of fire and flow arts and you have one heck of an amazing party.
The Wonderfruit Music Festival which is held in the fields of the Siam Country Club in Pattaya every December. Each year has a great line up of musicians from all over the world with awesome visual installations to match. It’s a definite must-do if you’re a lover of festivals, good food and great vibes.
6. KHAO SAN ROAD
Markets, backpackers, food stalls, spas, restaurants, and pubs. It is a wonder how all these can fit into one small road, but a visit to Bangkok is never complete without a visit to the crazy and chaotic Khao San Road.
The best way to celebrate New Year is to make it an excuse to have a water fight. From April 13th to 15th, head to Khao San Road or Silom Road with your water pistol and water balloons to join the fun. If you are not quite ready to get soaked, then perhaps avoiding these areas would be a good call.
8. LOI KRATHONG
Held in Chiang Mai during the first full moon of November, a thousand lanterns float up to the night sky during this magical festival. Make a wish and release a lantern to the sky as a symbol of new beginnings.
9. MOTORBIKE ROAD TRIPS
Thailand has beautiful roads that are great for motorbike trips. Up north, you have the Mae Hong Son Loop and the Samoeng Loop which all begins in Chiang Mai and takes you through winding roads with spectacular waterfalls and viewpoints to stunning landscapes along the way.
10. ALL THE WATS
The wats are probably the most iconic features of Thailand. With their glittering and colourful roofs, their intricately designed walls and posts, and the mythical creatures that gather in their courtyards, they always draw the attention of tourists.
11. THAI FOOD
Whether you are a fan of the spicy Thai curry, the tangy Tom Yum soup or the default Pad Thai, authentic Thai food is probably one of the best reasons to head to Thailand.
