The Most Instagrammable Spots
In Lombok

While it’s obviously not the only reason we travel, it’s safe to say that getting the perfect Instagram shot is a big influence when choosing our next vay-cay destination! Thankfully for you lot, Slumber Party Hostels know a thing or two about picture-perfect locations across Asia. Lombok is one such place that is absolutely chock-full of Instagrammable destinations and we’re here to walk you through our top spots so you can fill your feed and stories with snaps that will have your friends green with envy!

Unlike its popular neighbour, Bali, Lombok is still relatively untouched by tourism and you therefore get a much more authentic insight into true Indonesian life and you’re unlikely to have to queue for a photo – #winning.

Mt Rinjani Crater Lake

Mount Rinjani is probably the highlight of any trip to Lombok. Standing at 3,726m, Mt Rinjani is a mammoth volcano in the north of the island that looms over the whole island. Travellers are able to hike up and even stay on the mountain overnight which makes for an exciting opportunity. Still active – with its most recent eruption in 2010 – Rinjani offers intrepid travellers a chance to test their hiking prowess with a gruelling trek over two or three days up to the crater lake or summit. However, the blood, sweat and tears (that will no doubt be a part of the hike) will all be worth it when you see the Instagram-perfect crater lake!

Rinjani Lodge

The two and three-day treks up Mt Rinjani involve camping in tents (freezing your butt off!) on the crater ridge and that’s why, by the time you get back down from the volcano, you’ll want to treat yourself to a little luxury. This is where Rinjani Lodge steps in! Not only are the rooms comfortable and the food delicious, but the infinity pool is to die for! Perched at the foot of Mt Rinjani, Rinjani Lodge boasts epic views of the volcano and the surrounding valleys filled with lush green trees. The fact that you can enjoy this morning ‘til night from the infinity pool makes it even more worthwhile.

For once I am not the one ruining the stunning view! 🐒

Pusuk Monkey Forest is an area of natural beauty that lies in the forest surrounding Mt Rinjani. The verdant hills are filled with troupes of long-tailed macaques, that, while friendly, still want to get their hands on your food and sunglasses! The best way to explore the Pusuk Monkey Forest is by moped or on foot so you really have chance to roam the roads, stopping off whenever you like to take photos with your new furry friends.

Kuta Beach at Sunset

The region of Kuta in Lombok is somewhat different to the party-mad area of neighbouring Bali. Here you’re more likely to find surfers and couples watching the sunset than drunk Australians partying hard until the earlier hours. This atmosphere, plus its pristine beaches, make Kuta Lombok one of the most Instagrammable spots on the island. Head here for a day riding the waves before stopping with a beer or coconut in hand to enjoy the colourful sunset – dreamy.

Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Waterfalls are yet another thing that Lombok does well! Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls are located in Senaru, close to Mount Rinjani meaning you don’t just have to wait around in an empty town before embarking for your trek. Start your adventure with mini hikes to these waterfalls, waking early to catch the sunrise en route before stopping to enjoy both of these stunning waterfalls in their own right. Both waterfalls are somewhat signposted from the road but there are a few river crossings to get to Tiu Kelep so you may want to take a guide with you for added security (although this is totally not obligatory whatever the locals might tell you!).

Pink Beach

Another spectacularly Instagram-friendly spot on Lombok is the famous Pink Beach aka Tangsi Beach. This gorgeous stretch of coastline features cotton-candy-coloured sand that has been tinged pink due to tiny fragments of dead red coral floating to the shore and mixing with the white sand to create a pastel pink hue. While the level of ‘pinkness’ does vary throughout the day, if you spend a few hours here you’re sure to get some Insta-worthy shots. Take a 30-minute hike up the nearby hillside to get some awesome pics from above too!
