Five Must-Do Road Trips from Patong

Slumber Party Hostels

Welcome to Slumber Party Hostel. We are  proud to offer the best party hostel experience for backpackers across Thailand and Indonesia.

There is nothing like having the freedom to explore the island of Phuket by renting a scooter and seeing what it has to offer all on your own. So, get your helmet on, do some beach hopping and head to our list of the best road trips from Patong. See the sights that Phuket has to offer at your own pace.

KARON VIEWPOINT

4233, Tambon Karon, Amphoe Mueang Phuket, Chang Wat Phuket 83100, Thailand

Half an hour from Pa Tong Beach is one of the best viewpoints in Phuket, Karon Viewpoint. Once known as Kata Viewpoint and also Khao Saam Haad, which can be translated as Three Beaches Hill is Thai, the viewpoint overlooks the Andaman Sea, giving you sweeping views of the beaches of Kata Noi, Kata Yai, and Karon Beaches. 10 minutes away from either Nai Harn and Kata Noi Beach, there is plenty of parking space at the bottom before you make your trek up to the top.

BIG BUDDHA

Between Kata and Chalong

A 45-meter Buddha sat on top of Nakkerd Hill is hard to miss and can be seen from as far as Phuket Town and Karon Beach. If you would like to know what this massive statue is looking at from its lofty perch, then hop on your scooter and ride towards the big, white Buddha. Head to Chao Fa Road East near Cha Long and follow the red and white signs to get to the Buddha statue.

PROMTHEP CAPE

Rawai, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket, Thailand

One of the most popular destinations in Phuket, Promthep Cape does have a place on postcards because of its stunning views of the Phi Phi Islands, Koh Racha Ya, and Koh Racha Noi. A favourite sunset lookout, do make sure you make your way here early to find a good spot. You can also make your way down to the edge of the cape or to the viewing balcony on top of the lighthouse. Another option is to enjoy the view while dining at the reasonably priced Promthep Cape Restaurant.

SAMET NANGSHE VIEWPOINT

Khlong Khian, Takua Thung District, Phang-nga 82130, Thailand

Possibly the least popular viewpoint in Phuket, the Samet Nangshe offers stunning vistas of the limestone formations and mangroves of Phang Nga Bay. Although it is the best location to watch the sunrise, be prepared for an early wake-up call and a 2-hour drive that goes over Sarasin Bridge and through hairpins. So, it is best to drive there the day before and stay there for the evening. You can either hire tents atop the hill or stay in one of the guesthouses at the bottom of the viewpoint.

KHAO LAK

A good 2.5-hour drive from Patong, Khao Lak is worth the long day on your rented moped. The gateway to the Similian Islands, the exquisite views from this location will make the long drive worth it. As it is so close to the islands, it would probably wise to stay here for the night and head for a day trip to the Similian Islands the next day. You can also ride around the island to check out what it has to offer – From spectacular waterfalls, verdant national parks, and golden sandy beaches, the area is filled with wonders worth exploring, so you might want to make the road trip worthwhile by staying here for a bit before heading back.
