Still In Thailand? Our Best Places To Visit Now!

Slumber Party Hostels

Welcome to Slumber Party Hostel. We are  proud to offer the best party hostel experience for backpackers across Thailand and Indonesia.

With all our Slumber fam spread out across the world, this blog post goes out to those that are still in Thailand waiting out this madness!

Although times aren’t the best right now, there hasn’t been a better time to travel around Thailand for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, there is likely to be less crowding at the popular attractions as tourist numbers aren’t anywhere near the level they usually would be at this time of the year. Secondly, with resorts and attractions having fewer numbers through the doors, there should be a great bargain or two that you can make the most of!

It’s worth noting that a lot of these places will have restrictions and rules on how you can visit them. So remember to mask up and check-in when required.

Here are some of our suggestions for the places you should visit whilst you’re still here!

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is usually one of the most popular destinations for backpackers when visiting Thailand, and for good reason. Chiang Mai is host to a wealth of culture and incredible scenery and is a must-stop along with Pai and Chiang Rai when heading to the North of Thailand.

These parts are home to breathtaking hikes and views, amazingly intricate and impressive temples, life-changing elephant sanctuaries and lots of local festivals and events.

Our top picks are;

  • Doi Suthep
  • Old City Temples
  • Elephant Jungle Sanctuary Chiang Mai
  • Doi Inthanon National Park
  • White Temple – Chiang Rai
  • Pai Canyon – Pai

Bangkok

Capital city! Bangkok does get a bad rap, and whilst we were of the same feeling when we first came to Bangkok, the longer you spend here the longer you realise there is a whole host of things to do! Some of Thailand’s more popular attractions can be found in Thailand as well as some great places to eat, drink and shop!

Our top picks are;

  • Wat Arun
  • Chatuchak Weekend Market
  • Emerald Buddha
  • Asok Area – Shopping and Eating

With weekend and floating markets still happening, attractions back open, and some of Thailand’s most famous food stalls/shops now less busy, it’s the perfect time to visit Bangkok!

Phuket

Phuket Old Town

Phuket has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic more so than any other destination due to its heavy reliance on tourism. With it being a massive island it has lots of tourist attractions, beaches, restaurants and shopping destinations, we see it as a mini Bangkok but with lots of beaches!

Phuket has begun to reopen just like the rest of Thailand, with some bars and nightclubs on the famous Bangla Road (Patong Walking Street) now opening again it’s got a sense of familiarity to some degree. We will admit it certainly won’t resemble anything of the past Phuket (some might find that a good thing!) but it’s still a great time to take advantage of the beaches and attractions.

Our top pics are;

  • Bangla Road
  • Kata and Karon Beach
  • Freedom Beach
  • Old Town (Insta pics galore!)
  • Chilvia Night Market (Weekdays) & Old Town Market (Sundays)
  • Green Elephant Sanctuary Phuket

Gulf Islands – Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao

Usually associated with partying, relaxing and diving, the Gulf Islands are a popular destination for anyone travelling Thailand. Each of the 3 islands can offer you something different, but all are home to some great spots to visit, and if you have the time you should definitely visit all 3!

Samui and Phangan have a bigger partying reputation than Koh Tao, but you can still find a place to party on Koh Tao! Samui and Phangan have a range of waterfalls to visit, and all 3 have some amazing views and beaches to take advantage of.

Our top pics are;

  • Scuba Diving and Snorkeling – Koh Tao
  • Angthong National Marine Park – Samui/Phangan
  • Fishermans Village – Koh Samui
  • Haad Rin, Secret, Bottle Beaches – Koh Phangan
  • Namuang Waterfall – Koh Samui
  • Freedom and Shark Bay Beaches – Koh Tao
  • Koh Nang Yuan – Koh Tao

So, that’s our little breakdown of the best places to visit right now if you’re still with us in Thailand!
