Off the Beaten Path in Phuket

When many dream of visiting Phuket, it is all about the beaches and parties. While partying the night away after a long day at the beach may be the vacation that you are looking for; eventually, you will want something with a little more substance. This delightful town is more than just tourist traps; there are some hidden gems off the beaten path in Phuket that may surprise you. When you are ready for a break from the beach, make your way further inland to experience one of these incredible sites. 

Khao Rang


In the north-western part of Phuket Town is Khao Rang, the second-highest summit of Phuket. Hiking to the top of this hill will give you a break from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas and allow for a breath of fresh air. Enjoy the sweet sounds of nature as you look over Phuket Town and the islands in the distance. At the top, you can also find Wat Khao Rang, a Buddhist temple, where a large sitting golden Buddha rests. If you are parched from the walk, relax at one of the three restaurants with a refreshing drink.  

Siam Niramit

Do you want to learn more about Thailand’s rich and beautiful country? One way to do this is through the theatrical show of Siam Niramit Phuket. This professional performance will take you through Thailand’s historical and cultural beliefs. It features songs, martial arts, and dance routines that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Make sure to arrive early so you can take advantage of the surrounding facilities before the show! 

Naka Market

The Naka Marketis held in Phuket town on the weekend. It is the best place to try traditional Thai food at a low price! You can try everything from spring rolls to grilled fish to sweet cakes. If you are an adventurous eater, gobble down a crunchy snack from their assortment for deep-fried bugs. Perfect for foodies as well as those who are looking for secondhand goods, knock-off brands, or curios.


Chalong Bay Distillery 

Thailand is the 4thlargest producer of sugarcane in the world. What does this have to do with alcohol? Chalong Bay Distillerymakes its rum from the sugarcane juice(unlike most commercial rum companies who make it from molasses). The entire process, from organically grown sugarcane to knocking back a glass of rum, is completed in Thailand. Chalong Bay Distillery is not too far from Phuket Town, and it an incredible place to stop for a smooth drink and a tour of the process!

Baan Chinpracha

While Thailand may be cheap compared to your home country, many people possess a great deal of wealth. One such family took advantage of Phuket’s time of tin mining almost a century ago and built a tremendous Sino-colonial mansion in 1903. Today, the owners have opened up part of the house for tourists to see the grandeur of the upper class’s lives over 100 years ago. 

Street Art Scavenger Hunt

Phuket Town is known for its colorful Sino-Portuguese style of shops, cafes, and galleries, but as of late, is it becoming even more colorful through its street art. Incredible and innovative artists are covering more of the city in creative and beautiful street art. If you love art and are willing to do some walking, take yourself on a street art scavenger hunt. Just make sure to bring your camera!  

Whether it is hiking to the top of Khao Rang, taking pictures of creative street art, or sipping a glass of rum, Phuket has so much more to offer than first meets the eye. Visiting one of these off the beaten path destinations in Phuket will give you an authentic taste of Thailand that will live on in your memories forever.
