Take a Deep Breath and Dive Into Bangkok’s Mermaid Castle Café

Enchantment Under The Sea: Bangkok’s Mermaid Castle Café

♫ Under the sea, darling it’s better, down where it’s wetter. Take it from me. ♫

Is there one animal or mythological creature left that doesn’t have its own café? We have cat cafés, dog cafés, bunny cafés and the elusive unicorn café amongst many more. A few months ago, Bangkok added a mermaid café to this list. Located in the Siam area opposite the Siam Paragon mall, the Mermaid Castle Café is everything, and we mean EVERYTHING, a fan of mermaids could possibly want. The café is only one part of it. Wait until you see the three other floors entirely dedicated to mermaid merchandise. It’s insane.

The Mermaid Castle will either turn you into an Ariel or an Ursula, so let’s take the plunge and find out.

The Mermaid Castle Café

Once you reach the cafe on the top floor you will be met with an appropriately colored and designed decor. The walls are purple and embellished with pictures of Little Mermaid characters, the rather uncomfortable stools and benches are in pink, and the tables have an ocean-esque design. A unique idea is the inclusion of plushy mermaid tails in which you can slip your legs in. If you find your Instagram profile lacking variety, then this is a great opportunity to spice it up a little. #AdventureHardPartyHard

The dishes themselves are fairly standard and what you would expect in a café. The big difference here lies in the presentation, which, in turn, is unlike anything you have seen before. For example, sugary mermaid tails are put on top of the Mermaid Cupcakes, the Milkyway Waffles are colored in pastel turquoise and pink, and the multi-hued Strawberry Vanilla Frappe has more shades than Christian Grey’s kinky sex chamber. You get the gist. The prices range from 70 Baht for a Mermaid’s Shell to 160 Baht for the waffles. The Signature Set (590 Baht) is a good choice if you bring your Sebastian with you. Here you get a selection of desserts along with a pot of tea or hot chocolate presented to you in one half of a bird’s cage. The tea sets are from other Disney movies namely The Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin.

Unfortunately, novelty is not necessarily an indicator for quality, which, in case of the food, is quite average.

Dive Into The Shopping Area

Could you get used to the cozy feeling of having your legs tucked inside the mermaid tails? Well, for only ~1500 Baht you can take a size M one with you! The shops have those and, god knows, so much more. Stationery, phone cases, makeup, dildos, brushes, seashell bikinis, stuffed animals, tea sets – all in the name of mermaids, unicorns, and capitalism. Walking through the maze of aisles is an experience that could easily cause a sensory overload.

One could say that your senses are being… flooded. Or that after shopping here your wallet experiences a… low tide. Okay, I will stop now, so… sea… you later. #AustinPowers

For more magical Instagram photos head to the third floor, where you can find the Mermaid Zone. Turn yourself into a Little Mermaid or Aquaman (Merman?) and show the world how fabulous you can be!

  • Opening hours: 12 pm – 9 pm (Daily)

Have you been to this unique castle yet and did it please your inner aquatic creature? Let us know in the comments and share your pictures, if you have any! Also, please forgive our horrible sea puns. We certainly don’t want to cause a mutiny.
