Bangkok offers some of the best nightlife in the world and none more so than the city’s awesome array of LGBT-friendly venues. Members of the LGBT community are welcomed here from far and wide and the local scene has been growing and growing over the past decade.
The majority of LGBT-friendly bars and clubs are focused around gay guys and ladyboys, so lesbians do take a bit of a hit when it comes to choice here, but fear not! There are still some decent options out there. Look out for monthly Lesla nights that move around the city for a great girl gathering.
Here are some of the best LGBT nightlife spots in Bangkok – so you can find the bar or club that suits you!
If you don’t want to head to a specific bar, wander down Soi 4 and see what takes your fancy. This is known as the gay-friendly hub of Bangkok so there are tons of bars to choose from.
This is one of the best places to start your night on Soi 4. Opening at 5.30pm, Balcony offers great happy hour prices and plenty of entertainment to get the night going. Tuck into some cheap local food while drinking happy hour cocktail jugs before trying your hand at some karaoke! Continue the night with a cabaret show and dancing before moving on to another of Soi 4’s LGBT venues.
Fork and Cork
For a classier and more chilled vibe, head to Fork and Cork. This bar allows you to sip whiskey and cocktails while chatting the night away and listening to live jazz music. Fork and Cork is open from 5pm-2am for meals and drinks, so you can relax in the knowledge that you have hours to soak up the atmosphere.
Alternatively, DJ Station is the place to go if you want to dance your heart out. As the name suggests, this club (walking distance from Soi 4) hosts DJs throughout the night that play top tunes to get you on the dancefloor. This is a perfect post-Balcony spot as it doesn’t get busy until later in the evening. If you didn’t catch the cabaret at The Balcony, get here before 11.30 to be in for a show!
Sundays at Maggie Choo’s
If you’re in the city on a weekend make sure you check out Maggie Choo’s on a Sunday. Each week this bar hosts an LGBT extravaganza with glitter, drinks, dancing and lip-syncing galore! The queens on stage sure know how to get the party started and you’ll be in awe of their incredible costumes – sparkles, wigs and all.
One of the rare girl-only bars in town, Zeta is a lively joint with cheap drinks, live music, female-only staff and loads of ladies looking to have a good time. If you’re seeking a Dee or Tom, this may be the place for you. E-Fun bar is located opposite and is another girl-only bar so you may prefer this if Zeta doesn’t take your fancy.
Playhouse Theater Cabaret
The Playhouse Theater Cabaret shines a light on the city’s transgender community with two nightly performances. At 70 minutes each, the shows (starting at 7 pm and 8.30 respectively) are an entertaining way to start the night. The performances are well-written and well-choreographed with epic Bollywood numbers and even some Broadway hits. We, therefore, think they are worth their somewhat hefty price tag (approx. 1200 Baht).
Since 2013, Go Grrrls has been throwing epic monthly parties for the queer community. Anyone is welcome as long as they have a love for indie music, individuality, respect and having a good time. Each month a new venue hosts a party to remember with revelers bringing their A-game outfits; ready to slay! Get your Club Kids outfit at the ready and expect a night of everything from Bowie to Bangkok disco tunes.
