Getting to Koh Phangan from Bangkok, Koh Samui and Koh Tao
If you’ve wondered how to get to Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party (or their amazing beaches), you’re in the right place! Getting to Koh Phangan can be a tricky process depending on where you’re coming from. Despite being (over)developed, Koh Phangan doesn’t have an airport, so how do you get there?
No matter what route you’re taking, you’re going to have to hop on a ferry at some point. Some find the trek stressful, but we’ve got you covered. We can even book your transportation for you, just give us a shout!
Getting to Koh Phangan from Bangkok
Bangkok is typically the start of anyone’s Thailand adventures, so you’ve got a few options for getting to Koh Phangan. The cheapest route is to take an overnight bus, departing at about 6PM and arriving in Surathani the next morning. From Surathani, you transfer to a ferry that takes you straight to Koh Phangan! I’ve taken this route straight before and never had issues.
The next option from Bangkok to Koh Phangan is to take a flight to Koh Samui. For those traveling on a budget, booking a flight may seem like the absolute last resort option but sometimes tickets can be quite cheap. Check out our guide on transportation in Thailand if you don’t believe me. Flying from Bangkok (BKK) to Koh Samui (USM) is a great option if you don’t have a ton of time to spare. From Koh Samui, you just need to take the regular ferry to Koh Phangan. Easy as pie.
The final option is my favorite: taking the overnight train from Bangkok to Surathani. While only a bit more expensive than the overnight bus, you get to travel much more comfortably. From here, it’s the same old ferry to Koh Phangan. Note that train tickets back to Bangkok can be expensive after the Full Moon Party, so be sure to book ahead of time.
Getting to Koh Phangan from Koh Tao
Hopefully you have enough time to explore the other islands of southern Thailand. The Full Moon Party is a blast, but there are other parties you need to get your ass to! Koh Tao is a great place to get your scuba diving license, play beer pong at The Fishbowl and don’t forget to spend an afternoon on Sairee Beach. For those lucky enough to reach Koh Tao before the Full Moon Party, it’s super simple getting to Koh Phangan. Just book a ferry and you’re good to go.
Your flight touches down in Bangkok. You spend a few nights partying with us on Khao San Rd. What’s next? Full Moon Party, of course. Don’t worry about how to get to Koh Phangan because Slumber Party has done it a million times.
