Go West! The 3 Best Budget-Friendly Western Restaurants in Patong

Slumber Party Hostels

Welcome to Slumber Party Hostel. We are  proud to offer the best party hostel experience for backpackers across Thailand and Indonesia.

With great power comes great responsibility and with great tourism comes a great number of western Restaurants in Phuket. This should be apparent by now as evidenced by our coverage of both breakfast and lunch spots on the island, specifically the Patong area.

To take yet another step on our culinary journey through Patong, we will introduce you to our favorite western restaurants. There are God knows how many of them spread over a comparatively small area and all of them are vying for your attention and, of course, dinero. This bustling town is not exactly known as the cheapest in Thailand with fancy establishments dominating the beach area. Nonetheless, we managed to spy out a few budget-friendly restaurants that don’t sacrifice quality in favor of quantity and a low price.

Since diversity is quite the thing these days, we will cover a variety of dining options, so that no one is left out. Food for everyone!

Backside Bistro

We love ourselves a good backside in more than one way. In this case, we are talking about the Swedish owned restaurant called Backside Bistro. This is our go-to place during the weekends when they organize ‘All You Can Eat’ BBQs. For only 200 Baht you have the choice of chicken fillets and wings, pork steaks, sausages, skewers as well as salads, bread, potatoes, fruits and a variety of dipping sauces. It really can’t get any better than that and we always make sure to arrive in a fasted state, meaning hungry AF.

Meat is definitely King in this restaurant, as are the portions. Just have a look at their 1 kg of hearty spare ribs with mashed potatoes (245 Baht)! The steaks are of a proper quality and quantity as well. For this, you have to fill out a little form where you specify the doneness of your steak and what kind of potatoes, butter, sauces you want with it. Our favorite? The one with American cheddar cheese, fried onions, dijon mayonnaise, onion rings, and french fries. A carnivores wet dream, indeed.

As we mentioned in the beginning, Backside is owned by a group of Swedes, so the menu includes dishes native to their homeland. We recommend trying out the meatballs, the creamy Swedish hash browns, and/or the pickled salmon with dill potatoes.

This place certainly provides the best bang for your buck, especially with their current low season offers. Oh, and they also deliver your order for free when you stay in Patong! So, you don’t even have to stop playing beer pong at Slumber Party to get some meat on your bones.

Opening times: 1 pm – 12 am (Daily)
Address: 101 Nanai Rd. Ban Patong, Phuket, Thailand

Salute Bangla

The market is inflated with places offering pizzas and Patong is no exception to that. On one hand, it is nice to know that you can get this Italian national dish everywhere, but the quality, on the other hand, can often be subpar. Salute Bangla effortlessly sticks out of the mediocrity as an authentic Italian ristorante serving wood oven fired pizzas that will provide you with a “la dolce vita” experience at an affordable price.

A large Margherita, for example, costs 220 Baht and a prosciutto only 260 Baht. However, we do encourage you to go out of your pizza comfort zone and try out the fantastic pork cannelloni or the vegetarian ones with spinach and ricotta cheese. You can really tell by the savory flavor that the chefs know their craft. This makes sense, since the owner Alex is Italian and moved to Thailand over two decades ago. Lucky for us, he brought all his knowledge, skill, and love for the Italian cuisine with him.

While you are enjoying the Italian “good life”, why not enhance it with a good glass of imported red wine? And then cap it all off with an espresso and a complimentary shot of limoncello. Salute does offer a delivery service, similar to Backside Bistro if that’s what you prefer. But the laid-back atmosphere, the owner, and the location in a small side street next to Bangla road makes it a worthwhile visit in its own right.

Opening times: 3 pm – 11 pm (Daily)
Address: 58/5 Soi Patong Resort, Patong, Kathu, Phuket 83150, Thailand

Salsa Mexicana Patong

Finally, a restaurant with a view. Finally, a place to see the sun go down beyond the vastness of the Andaman sea. That is what SalsaMexicana offers along with the best Mexican food on the whole island. The great thing about this delightful restaurant is that it does not simply serve Mexican and Thai food. It fuses the both together so that you have classic Mexican dishes such as fajitas, tortillas, and burritos with the addition of Thai spices. It’s an ingenious idea really, but one that shouldn’t actually come as a surprise. After all, it was the Portuguese who brought the chili from South America to Thailand, so there is a link of sorts between the two.
With that being said, you need to let the staff know how spicy you want your food. Otherwise, your hot salsa can cause you to perspire more than you asked for.

The prices are a little higher compared to the other two restaurants. But first off, you have this overwhelming view, and secondly, the quality and generous servings more than make up for it. We dare you to claim that you were still hungry after a chimichanga or a plate of Quesadillas! Depending on what kind of filling you prefer, the price ranges between 360 – 400 Baht. One of the favorite dishes among the patrons are the sizzling beef fajitas for around 400 Baht.

Speaking of ‘patrons’, as a Mexican restaurant, SalsaMexicana, of course, has an appropriate selection of Tequilas. Among them is a Slumber Party staple – Patron Tequila. If the thought of Tequila shots make your stomach feel little uneasy (we certainly know that feeling…), then why not go for a refreshing margarita or a glass of sangria instead?

All in all, SalsaMexicana is worth every Baht we have spent here so far and will continue to spend in the future.

Opening times: 11 am – 11 pm
Address: 253 Prabaramee Road, Tumbon Patong Phuket, Thailand

Sorry, Thai Food…,
